Rob Ball has been making photographs at the coast for fifteen years and has documented over 100 resorts worldwide. His work examines the patterns of the commercial coastline and the changes that arise from seasonal and generational shifts. Focusing on how fractured communities and infrastructure undergo repair and renewal, Ball’s images demonstrate that, despite a lack of investment, the coastline endures. His work depicting the built environment at the seafront represents an important and often overlooked part of our culture. He has produced six photobooks that bring together these ideas, examining the commercial coastline on both sides of the Atlantic, from Cleethorpes to Coney Island.
